were married yesterday. the day was beautiful. in the morning, there was a small gathering participating in a native ceremony at Heritage Park. Ray explained the symbolism of blanketing the ground, blanketing the couple, smudging etc. Uncle Herman blessed the couple with a native drum song. this ceremony was dubbed the "red wedding".
later that evening a large crowd gathered at whonnock lake center for a beautiful outdoor ceremony. this was the "white wedding"; exchanging vows and rings before God and a host of witnesses. i have to admit that i had a difficult time performing the ceremony. everytime i looked at their eyes, it made me cry - the emotions were so strong. i'm pretty sure the pastor is not suppose to cry!! it was such an honor to be part of this day.
i received this very symbolic gift from brander and jil - the drum is handpainted (by brander) with a hawk on it. my 'native' name is littlehawk. i was very touched by this gift of love.

that sounds too funny - that the pastor would be the one crying at the wedding.
