(from todays devotion by Selwyn Hughes)
We say to Christ, albeit unconsciously, 'I will let You have certain areas of my life - just enough to enable me to still have some feeling of independence. But don't ask me to experience the terrible feeling of complete and utter helplessness.'
That, however, is precisely what God does ask of those who say they want to be committed to Him. He wants us to be willing to trust Him enough to experience that feeling of hopelessness, and abandon ourselves completely to Him. A life of true peace involves total surrrender to Jesus, and the willingness to cease living as a self-centered person and to live instead as a Christ-centered one.
Who doesn't struggle with this issue? Who doesn't prefer to hold on to the visible securities of life even when they are falling apart? We fear that having Jesus Christ we will have nothing besides.
What fools we are not to believe that He is enough.
