a question i get asked a lot lately. its been almost 4 months since i officially 'retired' from pastoring. funny thing though - i have probably had more time and opportunity to really minister to folks than before. its wonderful to be able to be in ministry 'out of the line of fire.' to have the freedom to follow God's leading, not man's. to discover what God's expectations are and not stress over meeting someone else's expectations for you. i have been discovering what my gifts really are, and how God can use them. i remember when i first became a pastor - a long time ago - it was such a joy to serve, it was exciting, it was challenging. but honestly, the last few years it has not been that way at all. it has been a struggle; not able to meet the expectations of others, not being in my area of giftedness, dealing with a lot of personal attacks from church people, the list goes on.... there no longer was joy, it was tiring, it was draining, it was hurtful. i really needed this extended Sabbath rest. over the summer, i read lots, thought lots, prayed lots.
i feel rejuevenated, energized and excited about serving - plain and simple.
God is good and i thank Him for 'restoring my soul' over the last few months.
